PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hello fellow School Nutrition Association Members! I hope your school year is off to a great start! The first few months have been very busy for the School Nutrition Association of South Dakota. Thank you to all who attended our Annual Conference in Rapid City this past August and for making it a successful event! First of all, I would like to welcome Kathy Van Westen to the Executive board as our new Membership/Certification Chairperson as of our first board meeting in October. Any Membership or Certification questions can now be directed towards her. Kathy’s contact information is in this newsletter. Also new to the board as of the last meeting is Chapter 10 President Robyn Pyner. Victoria Wittrock, Della Zimmerman and myself have been working diligently on the tax status for our organization. Please look for a full update in this newsletter.
Legislative Chair Joni Davis has been working very hard to keep us informed of pending changes to School Nutrition. Please read her report for more information. Since this is the year to prepare for change, we are also looking into changing the landscape of our executive board. I have established two tasks forces looking into a) realigning our chapter layouts and also b) looking into the possibility of bringing an executive director on board. There are 2 short descriptions of this in the newsletter. If you are interested in serving on either or both task forces, please let me know. We are planning to meet in November/December so we can have preliminary plans for the February board meeting. Please make plans to attend our annual trip to Pierre this February to help support our Legislative efforts. More information is in the newsletter. The Executive Board Meeting will be held in conjunction with Legislative Days on Wednesday, February 1st, 2012. Charlotte our President-Elect is working on bids for the 2015 and 2016 conferences. The Executive Board has decided to try a three day conference (Tuesday-Thursday) for those two years. If you have any interest in providing input for a possible conference agenda layout for a three day conference, please contact me. The executive board is here to answer any questions you may have.
